Farmers are invited to join an 11-week program to build personal and professional leadership skills.
“In the complex business of farming where efficiency and effectiveness are key to success, interpersonal skills, relationships and work habits matter,” said Farm Management Canada in a Dec. 14 news release.
The National Farm Leadership Program is accepting applications for a learning cohort, which will begin training Jan. 24.
The program is designed to fit into a busy farm life and helps farmers identify “critical development areas that will have the greatest impact on their personal and professional lives,” the release said.

“Few of us consider our own leadership as a competitive advantage, however, research shows that leader effectiveness can account for as much as one-third of business performance,” it added.
The course includes 11 weeks of structured online learning and a three-day residency in Victoria, B.C. Farmers’ personal leadership will be assessed against a global dataset. They will create a personal plan to increase leadership, receive monthly group and individual coaching for the remainder of the year, and get access to a private online community.
Manitoba farmer and executive coach Kelly Dobson will lead the program.
The deadline to apply is January 17.
