CNS Canada –– Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Thursday, Nov. 5.
• Shortages and resulting high local prices in India remain at the forefront of the global pulse market. However, government efforts to ease the situation are starting to be seen in the domestic market, with the arrival of the country’s kharif season crop contributing to a slight easing in prices.
• Regina-based Rebellion Brewing has unveiled a new Lentil Cream Ale which uses Saskatchewan-grown lentils for its light (four per cent) beer. The beer is thought to be one of only three lentil beers brewed in the world.

The Trump administration on Friday finalized new biofuel blending volumes mandates for the U.S. oil refiners, requiring more of the fuels made from corn and other agricultural products than initially proposed,in an apparent win for U.S. farmers.
• The Health Council for the Netherlands has released its first food guidelines in more than three decades. A recommendation to abstain from alcohol has generated the most headlines, but included in the guidelines are recommendations that people eat more pulses — such as lentils and chickpeas — in order to reduce cholesterol and the risk of heart disease.
• Green pea prices in the C$7.80-$8.50 per bushel range are being reported, while prices anywhere from C$7.50 to $9.40 per bushel can be found for yellow peas. Red lentil bids as high as 44 cents per pound are being reported in some locations, while No. 2 large green lentils are hitting prices as high as 50 cents.
