WINNIPEG, June 6 (CNS Canada) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Tensions between Qatar and a number of other nearby countries remained at the forefront of the financial markets on Tuesday following yesterday’s move by Saudi Arabia and others to cut diplomatic ties with the gas-rich nation over terrorist concerns.

– South Africa’s GDP declined by 0.7 per cent in the first quarter of 2017, following a 0.3 per cent loss the previous quarter, taking the country into a recession, according to reports from the South African government.

– The United Kingdom is holding a general election on Thursday, June 8, and the uncertainty of the outcome had investors backing away from riskier assets on Tuesday morning. The latest polls show the Labour Party gaining ground on the ruling Conservatives.
