Nine maple syrup producers in northwestern New Brunswick will share $2.6 million in federal and provincial funds to renovate, expand and invest in new equipment.
The funding, announced Friday, includes $1.91 million by way of the federal Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s business development program, and $757,238 from the provincial Northern Development Fund.
The producers plan to use the support to improve, upgrade and modernize their installations, add new taps, and buy “specialized equipment in order to increase their productivity and expand their operations.”
The companies receiving funding include Erabliere du Pont d’Or, Erabliere Denis Cote, Erabliere Patrick R. Theriault, Erabliere T.D.G. Somers, Erabliere Pascal Theriault, Erabliere Dionne and Sucrerie Rodrigue Thériault, all of St-Quentin; Erabliere de la Montagne Verte, of St-Joseph; and Amand Sugary, of California Settlement.

The province “appreciates the innovation demonstrated by the maple syrup industry and the world-class products it brings to market,” Restigouche-la-Vallee MLA Burt Paulin said in the province’s release Friday.
New Brunswick’s maple industry is “very important to the economy of our province,” he said, citing its northern region’s “Action Plan for Self-Sufficiency.”
