The Canadian Young Farmers Forum has enlisted as an associate member of the Grain Growers of Canada.

The CYFF, an educational and skills-development organization for farmers between ages 18 and 40, “feel there is value in working with other organizations that are also focused on fair but competitive farming for everyone in agriculture,” CYFF general manager Rod Scarlett said in a release Wednesday.

Wednesday’s announcement makes the CYFF the 13th partner group in the GGC.

CYFF members “bring originality and innovation to our organization on the issues facing the future farming generations and we look forward to that input,” Doug Robertson, a Carstairs, Alta. farmer and president of the GGC, said in the same release.

Pulse Weekly: SaskPulse optimistic despite input, crop price concerns

SaskPulse executive director Carl Potts is optimistic ahead of the planting season despite lower crop prices and the war in Iran.

“Sitting with the board of directors of the Grain Growers and maintaining close collaboration will give valuable skills and knowledge to the CYFF for furthering the development and governance of their organization as well as our own.”

“Creating a knowledgeable community of support is an important element of our forum,” said Scarlett, who’s based at Sherwood Park, Alta. and is also general manager for Alberta’s general farm group, Wild Rose Agricultural Producers.

“We look forward to engaging with the Grain Growers of Canada as a representative force at both provincial and federal levels,” he said.

“We already work closely with our provincial counterparts and think this new affiliation will help both our industry and our growers.”
