Federated Co-op is the latest organization to pick up Egg Farmers of Canada’s Egg Quality Assurance branding on some of its packaging.
“We know Co-op customers care where their food comes from and how it’s produced,” said Ron Healey, vice-president of ag and consumer business at Federated Co-operatives Limited in an Oct. 29 news release.
“We’re working with Egg Farmers of Canada and using the EQA certification mark to assure our customers that Canadian eggs can be trusted for being a high-quality product with consideration for animal welfare,” he said.

This summer McDonald’s Canada rolled out the Egg Quality Assurance or “EQA” mark during an advertising campaign for its BLT Egg McMuffin.
All EQA-certified eggs have met the requirements of Egg Farmers of Canada’s national Start Clean-Stay Clean and Animal Care Programs, which include on-farm inspections, mandated cleanliness and air-quality standards, as well as feed and record-keeping requirements.
“The EQA certification program is a testament to the decades of work spent building and strengthening standards across the Canadian egg farming industry,” said Roger Pelissero, chair of Egg Farmers of Canada, in the release.
“By carrying the EQA certification mark on its products, Co-op is showcasing its commitment to sourcing quality, safe, local eggs,” Pelissero added. “We’re thrilled by its enthusiasm and support.”
