The historic dome building on the Keystone Centre grounds will be the site of a fundraiser for Agriculture in the Classroom — Manitoba.

In the spirit of going a step further to promote agriculture advocacy, this year Ag Days is throwing a fundraising social for one of the province’s most important agriculture education groups.

The first-ever Manitoba Social will take place January 23 at 8 p.m. in the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba’s historic dome building with all funds raised going to help support and expand Agriculture in the Classroom – Manitoba programming.

AITC-M is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to developing curriculum-linked programs, resources and activities for teachers and students to learn more about the importance of agriculture in Manitoba. AITC-M’s goal is to ensure all students, by the time they graduate, are ag-literate citizens with enough knowledge to make informed consumer decisions

Mazergroup’s Bob Mazer dies

Mazergroup’s Bob Mazer, who helped grow his family’s company into a string of farm equipment dealerships and the main dealer for New Holland machinery in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, died July 6 from cancer.

Organizers feel the social will be a great opportunity for exhibitors and patrons to meet up for some casual conversation, drinks, and network with each other while supporting AITC-M’s work on behalf of the sector.

“We are always looking for opportunities to continue to grow and expand our show. With this year’s theme of Tell Your Story – Be An Agvocate we wanted to do something extra special to help positively impact our agriculture industry,” said Kristen Phillips, Manitoba Ag Days general manager. “We have worked with Agriculture in the Classroom… for many years as we recognize the incredible work it does for our industry. It plays an essential role in helping educate our youth and future leaders about agriculture and agriculture practices throughout the province.”

Phillips feels fortunate that Manitoba Ag Days was able to collaborate with the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba to utilize the newly refurbished dome building located on the grounds of the Keystone Centre, one of the few remnants at the site of the 1913 Dominion Exhibition held at the site. The building holds an incredible amount of agriculture history and the board felt it was a perfect opportunity to help showcase the space with a good old-fashioned Manitoba Social. Andrea Guthrie, Manitoba Ag Days media co-ordinator, agrees.

“It will be a great opportunity for exhibitors and patrons to come meet up, network and share our common passion for agriculture all while raising funds for AITC-M,” said Guthrie. “A live auction is planned, and you may even be able to see a celebrity auctioneer. We hope that funds raised will continue to help support and expand the… programming in schools throughout Manitoba.”

Guthrie welcomed interested patrons to check out the video promotion of the first-ever Manitoba Social presented by Manitoba Ag Days on its website. Guthrie also encouraged interested attendees to act as soon as possible to arrange tickets.

“If you are interested in attending, tickets for this event are limited and will be available to purchase by emailing [email protected] or through our exhibitors,” said Guthrie. “If you or your organization would like to help us raise funds by donating prizes (big or small), please also email.”
