Global markets: US trade gap falls

WINNIPEG, April 4, 2017 (CNS Canada) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets globally.

– The American trade deficit dropped more than anticipated in February, according to reports out of the country on Tuesday.

The US trade gap fell 9.6 per cent to US$43.6 billion, the country’s commerce department says.

– Following three consecutive monthly surpluses, Canada’s merchandise trade balance with the world posted a C$972 million deficit in February. Exports were down 2.4 per cent, with decreases in 8 of 11 sections. Imports edged up 0.6 per cent, due in part to increased sales of motor vehicles, Statistics Canada said in a report on Tuesday.
