Global Markets: North Korea provokes more outrage

Aug. 29 (CNS Canada) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– A North Korean missile fired over the Japanese island of Hokkaido drew immediate and stern reaction, and further heightened global tensions. The United Nations security council was expected to address the issue at a meeting later today.

– United States President Donald Trump planned to visit areas of Houston, Texas, hit hardest by Tropical Storm Harvey. The storm has killed at least nine people and caused mass evacuations with damages expected to be in the billions of dollars.

– Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s new cabinet is ready to get down to business today with several people in new roles following a cabinet shuffle on Monday. The biggest change came when Trudeau split the indigenous and northern affairs portfolio with Jane Philpott named Minister of Indigenous Services, while Carolyn Bennett becomes Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs.
