Manitoba soybean growers are hoping for at least another frost-free week.
Dennis Lange of Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Development discussed soybean maturity on Sept. 7 with Manitoba Co-operator reporter Allan Dawson at a test plot near Carman.
The plot of yellow-leaved soybeans seen in the video are in the R-7 stage. According to Lange, this is determined when at least one pod on the main stem has reached its mature colour of brown or tan. A killing frost of -2 C or colder would cut yields in this plot by about five per cent, but it would also hurt seed quality.
