Budget Input Sought

Finance Minister Rosann Wowchuk is seeking Manitobans’ input into the 2011 provincial budget beginning with consultations on Oct. 14 in Brandon.

“The global economic downturn has affected us all. I want to hear what Manitobans have to say and what their needs are. These pre-budget consultations are an excellent opportunity for the people of Manitoba to tell us what is on top of their priority list,” said Wowchuk.

The pre-budget consultations will be at the following times and locations:

Brandon -Thursday, Oct. 14, 1 to 3 p. m. at the Pioneer Lounge, Upper Concourse, Keystone Centre, 1175 18th St.;

St. Laurent-Tuesday, Nov. 9 (bilingual presentation), 7 to 9 p. m. St. Laurent Parish Hall, 19 Parish Lane;

Winnipeg -Thursday, Nov. 18, 7 to 9 p. m. at Southdale Community Club, 254 Lakewood Blvd., and

Lorette -Monday, Nov. 29, 7 to 9 p. m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1298 Dawson Rd.

Wowchuk said the pre-budget consultations will also highlight the province’s five-year economic plan, which includes:

Investing in vital front-line services;

Stimulating economic growth by continuing to build and upgrade needed infrastructure;

Managing government spending;

Restoring balance by returning to surplus by 2014; and

Keeping Manitoba as one of the most affordable places to live, work and raise a family.
