The articles “Trade Rules Stymies Ontario Farmer” (March 4) and “Ewe Numbers Down” (March 4) both explain why there are not more sheep in Manitoba and, in general, Canada. Where are we supposed to market them? How do you serve your customers with limited slaughter and that great a distance to access? Who is butchering our lambs for us locally?
Without having the government allow less stringent rules on their environmental guidelines, there are no new inspected slaughter facilities that can afford to open to take up the increase of animal numbers. Presently we cannot legally get animals slaughtered for the local market, so restaurants and stores are obliged to purchase sheep-lamb meat from
