Toews Family Enterprises tops corn competition

A harvest of 281.9 bushels to the acre earned the farm the annual honours

Toews Family Enterprises, of MacGregor, has earned top spot in the 50th annual corn yield competition, hosted by the Manitoba Crop Alliance, with 281.9 bushels an acre.

It will get its name inscribed on the trophy and will safeguard it for the year, as well as earning a $1,000 cash prize donated by the winning seed company.

Pioneer Hi-Bred Canada will be putting up the cash after Toews Family Enterprises planted its P8234AM variety.

In second place was John and Dane Bergen of Roland, who achieved 254.69 bushels an acre with PRIDE Seeds A5225G2 RIB variety.

Taking third was Baker Community Farms, also of MacGregor. It harvested 232.89 bushels per acre with Pioneer Hi-Bred’s P8234AM variety.
