Expanded bird food operations in Winkler will create six additional jobs and expand need for municipal services, the Scoular Company announced June 30.
The company relocated its Winnipeg bird food operations to its facility in Winkler in June.
“This community has provided Scoular an opportunity to engage our strong business relationships and invest in our future growth,” said Robert Deraas, general manager for Scoular in a news release.
The Scoular Company is a Nebraska-based grain-handling and processing company. Scoular Canada purchases sunflowers from Manitoba farmers for human snack foods and for use in bird feeds.
Bird food demand is strong, the company said in the release.
“At Scoular, we think of ourselves as the ‘Sunflower People’ for the growers of Manitoba,” said Ben Friesen, Scoular’s product group manager for sunflowers. “We are committed to providing these growers with a competitive market for their sunflowers.”
