Black Sea States To Boost Maize Exports

Major maize producers in the Black Sea region Ukraine, Russia, Bulgaria and Romania are likely to boost production by 13 per cent to 25.8 million tonnes in 2010 from 22.851 million in 2009, an analyst said on May 12.

UkrAgroConsult agriculture consultancy said in a statement the four states were also likely to increase maize exports from the region by about 23 per cent to 8.48 million tonnes in 2010-11 from 6.91 million in 2009-10.

The consultancy said Ukrainian maize shipments would dominate the export with a supply of 6.7 million tonnes of maize in 2010-11 compared to 5.3 million in 2009-10.

UkrAgroConsult said the rise in crop to at least 11.4 million tonnes this year was the reason for a higher export.
