Ag in Motion Discovery Plus announces events for digital farm show

Organizers say they won’t let pandemic prevent farmers from seeing technology and knowledge showcase

As Ag in Motion moves to an online, interactive platform due to the COVID-19 pandemic, western Canadian farmers can expect to continue to access exciting new technology, demonstrations, crop tours and high-profile keynote speakers.

“Ag in Motion has always been the trusted place for farmers to see new equipment, technical advancements, livestock and field cropping demos,” Rob O’Connor, Ag in Motion show director, said in a media release. “COVID-19 may have limited our options to gather in person, but we’re still offering innovative programming through Ag in Motion Discovery Plus so farmers won’t be missing out on critical information this season.”

University of Manitoba honours three agriculture alumni

Cathey Day, Fred Greig and Kim McConnell were chosen for the University of Manitoba’s 2025 certificates of merit from the agricultural and food sciences faculty.

The new Ag in Motion Discovery Plus is a digital event that will deliver interactive content from the field, giving participants a unique vantage point to see equipment and agricultural technology in a way they haven’t been able to before. This event runs July 21 to 25, 2020 and is free for farmers to participate.

Ag in Motion Discovery Plus will showcase many dynamic learning opportunities, including these signature highlights:

  • Virtual Field of STARS, Presented by Bayer: Tuesday, July 21, 2020
    Through a live broadcast and select radio stations, this celebratory evening features an online auction hosted by Ritchie Brothers, entertainment by the Canadian country band Washboard Union and tours of the STARS helicopter and Emergency Link Centre. This kickoff event is in support of the non-profit organization STARS.
  • Livestock Central: July 21 through 25, 2020
    Producers can virtually walk through several different breeds in the Beef Breeds Showcase, see side-by-side demonstrations of cattle-handling equipment and TMR mixers, and get instant access to product launches and the latest livestock information through live presentations from industry experts and exhibitors.
  • Knowledge Tent Keynote Speaker from Microsoft: Tuesday, July 21, 2020
    Ranveer Chandra is the chief scientist of Microsoft Azure Global and a partner researcher at Microsoft Research who leads FarmBeats, a cloud-based platform that enables data-driven agriculture through the power of AI and internet of things.

“Farmers have always been quick to innovate and embrace technology, and we’re expecting thousands of eager participants to walk through our Ag in Motion Discovery Plus virtual gate,” says O’Connor. “We are confident farmers will find tons of opportunities to learn, connect with others in the industry and see new products and innovations during this groundbreaking online event in agriculture.”
