WINNIPEG, December 8 – The following is a glance at the news moving markets globally.

– US jobless claims dropped from the five-month-high they were at, according to reports out of the country on Thursday.

Jobless claims in the week ending December 3 declined 10,000 to a seasonally adjusted 258,000, the country’s labour department said.

Claims have been below 300,000 for 92 consecutive weeks, which is indicative of a healthy labour force.

– The New Housing Price Index (NHPI) rose 0.4 per cent in October compared with the previous month. The combined region of Toronto and Oshawa contributed the most to the monthly increase, Statistics Canada said in a report on Thursday.
