Global Markets: Top Huawei executive arrested in Canada

WINNIPEG, Dec. 6 (CNS Canada) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– At the request of the United States, Canadian authorities have arrested Meng Wanzhou, a top executive with Chinese technology company Huawei and daughter of the company’s founder. The arrest was linked to U.S. sanctions against Iran and is seen as threatening the tentative trade truce between the U.S. and China.

– Initially sparked by anger over fuel tax increases, the ‘yellow vest’ protest movement is growing in France even though the government has backed off on the tax. The protest movement has evolved to touch on a number of issues – with widespread actions expected over the weekend. The French government is bracing for violence, as there have been a number of clashes with police already.
