Global Markets: Solar eclipse crosses North America

WINNIPEG, Aug. 21, CNS Canada) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– The solar eclipse tracks its way across North America on Monday, and many eyes will be on the sky (with proper protection) throughout the trading day.

– The UK will be releasing position papers this week ahead of the next round of Brexit talks with the European Union, set to begin on August 29. Over the weekend, the UK government released a press release saying it will be ‘stepping up the pressure’ on the EU to shift the focus of negotiations to the future relationship between the two entities and away from the terms of the separation itself.

– South Korea and the US are conducting annual military drills this week. While the two country’s say the drills are defensive in nature, North Korea sees the exercises as a provocation and the tensions remain high in the region.
