Global Markets: Pfizer seeks vaccine approval for children

WINNIPEG, Oct. 7 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Pfizer Inc. has officially filed for approval with the United States Food and Drug Administration to allow the use of its COVID-19 vaccine in children ages five to 11. If the Emergency Use Authorization is granted, children in the country could begin receiving the vaccine within a matter of weeks.

– Worldwide shortages of containers and delays moving cargo have forced many large retail giants, such as Walmart, to bypass the traditional supply chains and charter their own vessels, according to reports.

– The new anti-abortion law in Texas, which bans women from obtaining an abortion after six weeks of pregnancy, has been temporarily blocked by a U.S. judge. The ruling from District Judge Robert Pitnam prevents any enforcement while the legality of the law is challenged. Republican Texas officials have appealed the ruling. Pitnam wrote in his 113-page opinion that the since the law came into effect on Sept. 1, 2021, “women have been unlawfully prevented from exercising control over their lives in ways that are protected by the Constitution”.
