Global Markets: HBC explores joint venture

WINNIPEG, July 6 (CNS) – Hudson’s Bay Co. has announced it
is exploring a joint venture with European retailer Signa
Holding GmbH. The Canadian retail giant said it has signed a
letter of intent to explore a possible deal. Signa has been on
the hunt for an agreement after it made a bid for HBC’s German
operations last year.
Two high-ranking executives at WestJet are leaving the
company. The moves come as WestJet is taking steps to expand its
global footprint. The company’s vice-president of strategy
services and operations are the latest to leave amid a shake-up
of top-level brass.
Home sales in Montreal rose one per cent in the month of
June, exceeding the expectations of most analysts. According to
the city’s real estate board, sales totaled 4,081, which
compares to 4,055 a year before. At the same time, condominium
sales rocketed up by seven per cent.
