Global Markets: Canadians affected by Uber data breach

WINNIPEG, Dec. 12, 2017 (CNS) – The following is a glance at
the news moving markets in Canada and globally.
More than 800,000 Canadian riders and drivers may have been
affected as part of Uber’s worldwide data breach announced last
month. The disclosure came the same day the federal privacy
commissioner said it had opened a formal investigation into the
data breach, which saw the theft of information from some 57
million Uber accounts globally in October, 2016.
Ride-hailing service Lyft will be available starting today
in Toronto. The company’s arrival in Toronto marks Lyft’s first
time expanding outside of the United States. Lyft said in a
November blog post that it had been looking at growing
internationally for some time.
Bombardier Transportation has signed a deal to supply 333
new rail cars, along with a contact for maintenance work, to a
United Kingdom rail company. The rolling stock and maintenance
contracts are worth about C$928 million with the new trains
expected to be delivered between 2020 and 2022.
