Cattle prices at Manitoba auction sites for the week ended Oct. 3 remained strong as warmer temperatures allowed cattle to stay on pasture for a little while longer. Producers are expected to begin selling calves in the next week or two.
Canada has far fewer green peas than the government is reporting, says an analyst. “Purely from a price perspective, markets believe the Canadian harvest was smaller than estimated by Statistics Canada,” Stat Publishing noted in a recent article.
Prices for green lentils were steady to higher for the week ending Sept. 27, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire. A broker credited increased foreign demand.
Lentil prices on the Canadian Prairies eased back during the week ended July 28, said Levon Sargsyan, broker with Johnston’s Grain. Sargsyan noted that’s due to the recent rains that brought relief to some of the dry areas of the region.
As pulse crops across the country continue to develop, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada updated its estimates for dry peas and lentils. AAFC issued its July supply and demand report on July 21.
