The association announced June 2 it had elected four new members to its board, including Wally Butler, chief financial officer for the Brandon-based equipment dealership chain.

NAEDA, an advocacy organization for retail equipment dealers, is based in Kansas City and has a Canadian office in Calgary.

Mazergroup spans 18 sites in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, dealing mainly in New Holland products. Butler has worked for some iteration of the company since 1997, when it was known as Mazer Implements.

He previously served as a director of the Canada West Equipment Dealer Association and Western Equipment Dealership Association board from 2008 to 2020. His roles with the latter organization included chair of the audit committee, president and past president.

The other Canadian representative on NAEDA’s 13-member board is Landis Stankievech, business manager for Trochu Motors, an Agco, Versatile and Kubota dealer in Trochu, Alta.

Mazergroup, the largest New Holland dealership group in Canada, has 15 dealerships across Manitoba and southern Saskatchewan.

The Prairie Innovation Centre will enable more unique work-integrated learning opportunities, applied research projects and industry innovation. The centre is Assiniboine’s vision for the future of agriculture in Manitoba, and will address industry and economic needs in this important sector.

“Our college has a critical role in ensuring there are people trained and ready to step into careers in the growing agriculture sector. The Prairie Innovation Centre will answer the call, arming agriculture in Manitoba with a skilled labour force,” said Mark Frison, president of Assiniboine.

Brandon-based Mazergroup announced Tuesday it has assumed ownership of Yorkton New Holland, Raymore New Holland and Watrous New Holland, effective Sept. 1.

The three operations’ dealer principal, David Marshall, had bought the former Bolt Services New Holland outlet in 1998 at his home town of Raymore, about 110 km north of Regina.

Marshall then took over a New Holland company-owned dealership at Yorkton in 2002, and at Watrous, about 110 km southeast of Saskatoon, in 2008.

The three locations together have about 55 employees, who will bring Mazergroup’s total staff roster to over 370, the company said.

“We look to build upon the relationships that have been created in these locations by continuing to offer great products, great service, and an expanded support network to keep our new customers as productive as possible,” Mazergroup CEO Bob Mazer said in a release.

Marshall, in the same release, said his family thanks all its customers for their support and is “excited to join the Mazergroup family.”

The acquisition brings privately-held Mazergroup’s total locations to 19 — including all the New Holland dealerships in Manitoba plus two Saskatchewan shops at Regina and Moosomin.

Brandon-based Mazergroup on Thursday announced it’s signed a letter of intent to buy the assets and operations of Southeastern Farm Equipment — the lone New Holland dealer in Manitoba not already owned by Mazergroup — for an undisclosed sum.

The deal with Southeastern — which operates at Steinbach, Man., and serves Manitoba’s livestock-intensive southeast — is expected to close July 1, Mazergroup said in a release.

Mazergroup, which started at Brandon in 1959 and was known as Mazer Implements until 2009, now operates 12 dealerships across agricultural Manitoba plus one at Moosomin in southeastern Saskatchewan, making it the single largest New Holland dealership chain in Canada.

Southeastern, which set up shop in 1972, has operated a “state-of-the-art” facility on 18 acres on Highway 12 north of Steinbach since 2005. The dealership mainly handles New Holland equipment but also represents 10 other manufacturers including MacDon, Salford, Kinze, Simplicity, JCB and Pottinger.

Southeastern’s sales manager Corey Plett and sales administrator Russ Plett are to join Mazergroup’s shareholder group will be “valuable members of our sales management team,” Mazergroup CEO Bob Mazer, son of Mazer Implements founder Ed Mazer, said in the company’s release Thursday.

Adding a 14th location makes Mazergroup the largest New Holland dealer complex in North America, the company noted Thursday.

Other “consolidator” companies have expanded their reach farther on the Prairies in recent years. Rocky Mountain Equipment, based in Calgary with 38 dealerships across three provinces, is the second-biggest independent Case dealer in the world. “Training and education that meets the unique needs of our partners in industry are critical to the success of the college,” said ACC president, Mark Frison. “This program not only benefits the students and Mazergroup dealers, but the training our instructors receive in preparation helps them to keep abreast with the industry’s latest advances and apply this knowledge to other programs we offer.”

The New Holland technician program will be offered at the college’s Len Evans Centre for Trades and Technology with the first 12 students beginning classes April 13.

Three ACC instructors who received specialized training in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and North Dakota will teach the course that complements the college’s existing agricultural equipment technician apprenticeship program.

“Our agriculture-focused graduates are very high in demand,” said Rick Gray, chairperson of ACC’s school of business, agriculture and environment. “Many of them have jobs lined up prior to graduating and sometimes within their first year in a program.”

The Mazergroup was established in 1959 and is now the largest privately owned and operated New Holland dealership complex in North America with 13 locations across Manitoba and southeastern Saskatchewan.

The two-week program will allow students to retain the accredited standards New Holland requires of its technicians.

“Mazergroup, along with its main equipment supplier, New Holland NA, is always striving to serve its customers with the highest level of support from extensively trained Mazergroup staff,” said Bob Mazer, president and CEO of Mazergroup. “This program partnership with ACC is another step in seeking the very best in customer service through technicians specifically trained on the latest technology provided by New Holland. The first intake will be the first step in a lengthy and productive relationship between ACC, New Holland and Mazergroup.”

The program will focus on customer relations, report writing and technical training on latest equipment and systems used in service and repair, including inspection, diagnosis and repair of round balers, connecting laptops to equipment to retrieve service information and part orientation and ordering.

The first intake of students is all current employees of Mazergroup from dealerships throughout Manitoba and southeast Saskatchewan.
