The virtual world may soon be coming to a service rep near you in the not-too-distant future if today’s win in the Inventor’s Showcase at Manitoba Ag Days is any indication. The folks at Amazone have developed a Smart Service 4.0 system that allows technicians to completely disassemble equipment using virtual reality. In this video, Kale Wilson shows how the system works and talks about how this futuristic technology can assist with training and help producers quickly locate and identify equipment problems should they occur.

“The Inventors’ Showcase features 14 new inventions with everything from drop pans to robotics to safety harnesses,” said Andrea Guthrie, Manitoba Ag Days media co-ordinator. “The Inventors’ Showcase is located in Barn 4 this year and is always a big draw for our patrons.”

Year after year, the Manitoba Ag Days Inventors’ Showcase is always hotly contested among participants. For some, it is a necessary springboard for their product’s hopes and dreams. For others, it is filling a niche or void that drives their initiative. For Manitoba Ag Days show patrons, it is a creative window into the minds of some of Canada’s brightest and most innovative agriculture thinkers.

“It is inspiring to witness the ingenuity that is out there in the industry. Whether it is farmers or companies, there are some amazing new inventions coming that will help improve productivity, safety and efficiency on the farm,” said Brad Crammond, Manitoba Ag Days co-chair. This year’s competition includes:

Amazone/Mid-Plains Implements
Amazone with the SmartService 4.0 uses the possibilities of the digital VR (virtual-reality) and AR (augmented-reality) technologies and digital media to enhance the service world. Imagine fixing a tractor in Russia while sitting at your desk in Carberry, Manitoba all through VR and AR technologies.

Bushel Plus
Bushel Plus is a remote-controlled drop pan system that attaches to any combine without wiring within seconds to calibrate your harvest losses.

Dave’s Welding Shop
A simple towable machine that pulls a large steel “Bullet” to depths as deep as five feet to create underground drainage tunnels providing underground drainage in farmers’ fields.

Duck Foot
The Duck Foot is an aftermarket upgrade tine made to fit MacDon headers to lift the crop.

Easy Bosse
The product is a hand-held instrument made of medical-grade stainless steel tubing to be inserted into the mouth and esophagus of cows and calves resulting in a remarkable calming and mental distraction of the cattle while performing vaccinations.

Gem-L
The Wilson Pacesetter equipped with the AgriLite conveyor system provides farmers the ability to fill air seeders, deep banders, and spreaders at over 4,000 lbs./min.

Soaring Eagle Grain Equipment took first place in the Inventors’ Showcase on Jan. 17, 2018 at Manitoba Ag Days for its swinging drive-over that hooks up to a grain auger or conveyor. The device allows farmers to easily move from one hopper to the next for unloading in order to save time.

AgriLite Conveyor Trailers won second place at Manitoba Ag Days 2018 for its belt conveyor system that converts from a fertilizer and seed tender to a regular hopper trailer, giving producers more flexibility throughout the year with their equipment.

“Last year’s showcase was won by Intra Grain for its new grain-monitoring solution product,” says Jonothon Roskos, Manitoba Ag Days co-ordinator. Intra Grain was presented with a plaque and $1,000 cash from Manitoba Ag Days and an advertising package from the Manitoba Co-operator. Second place was awarded to Clean Seed Technologies, which was given a plaque and $500 cash from Manitoba Ag Days and an advertising package from the Manitoba Co-operator.

Roskos says there are 10 companies and individuals signed up for the 2015 Inventor’s Showcase competition from a wide range of new technology in farming operations.

“We have entries that range from a smartphone app that allows farmers to easily track their grain cart weight with a data-management system, to an online web-based program for pesticide selection of multiple pests in an array of crops, to an automated grain bin lid opener,” Roskos says.

There are also entrants from agricultural services such as an online grain marketplace that seeks to efficiently connect grain buyers and sellers. There are entrants from a new patented bolt-latch fender extensions for high-clearance sprayers and a loading monitoring system for grain trailers.

Another contender is a new model for a ditch-drainage machine, and the debut of the CX-6 SMART Seeder. The competition also includes a PTO-driven auger water pump and a drift-reduction system for sprayers.
