In the bottom image we see the daily maximum and minimum temperatures in Winnipeg over the last 365 days. The middle image shows the 30-day running mean temperature, which helps to smooth out day-to-day fluctuations in temperature and shows the general pattern of temperatures (red=warm, blue=cold). The top image is the daily mean temperature. The smooth black line is the average and the jagged line is the actual reading from the last year. Warmer-than- average conditions are shaded red and cooler-than-average are shaded blue.
