McCain recognizes top Manitoba growers

A&M Farm Ventures and S.B. Vegetable Growers took top honours at McCain Foods’ annual appreciation banquet last month.

Tom, Lisa, John and Shawna Adriaansen of A&M Farm Ventures, near Carberry, accepted the 2018 Champion Grower award for Manitoba, the first time they’ve won the recognition.

S.B. Vegetable Growers, from Portage la Prairie won Top Innovator Variety Grower in Manitoba. This is the ninth time the farm has won.

“At McCain Foods, we believe the grower relationship is an extension of our business and we always have tremendous respect for your efforts, and especially during this particularly challenging potato season,” said Christine Wentworth, McCain’s vice-president of agriculture for North America in a news release.

The banquet also marked the 40-year anniversary of McCain in Manitoba. The company employs more than 500 people in two facilities in the province, the news release said. It recently invested $75 million in these facilities, according to the release.

“The $75-million investment from McCain is reflective of the continued demand… and signals the company’s long-term commitment to Manitoba,” said Danielle Barran, president of McCain Foods Canada.
