Manitoba Insect and Disease Update, June 17

Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Development – A Manitoba Insect and Disease Update for the week of June 16-20, 2014 has been posted.

Your contributions of reports of insects and plant pathogens of concern is much appreciated.

A few quick highlights from the update:

  • Cutworms continue to be an issue in some areas.
  • Grasshoppers are emerging, but generally still in the first and second instar stages.
  • Alfalfa weevil larvae are starting to be noticed in some alfalfa fields.
  • Brown spot (Septoria) and bacterial leaf blight have been observed in soybeans, and rust has been found in some fields of sunflowers.

For those involved in monitoring diamondback moth adults, we can take the traps down once you have done your counts for this week.
