Convey-All Industries Inc. will be paying out over $50,000 in workplace health and safety penalties.
The Winkler-based business pled guilty to “failing to develop safe work procedures,” after a worker’s hand was pulled into a roll former used to shape corrugated metal in June 2016.
The province announced the ruling in a release Sept. 13.
According to the release, workers were cleaning the rollers of the roll former at the time of the incident.
“One of the workers held the machine’s hand controller and ‘jogged’ the rollers while he simultaneously wiped the rollers with a rag that he held in his other hand. A second worker sprayed a cleaning solution onto the rollers as the first worker wiped them clean. The first worker’s gloved left hand was pulled into the rollers,” the provincial release said.
The injured worker received crushing injuries to the trapped hand.
