Agricultural Crown Land auctions move online

Digital auctions have been announced for February

Manitoba is going online for its next round of Agricultural Crown Land auctions.

The province announced the move Jan. 11. Auctions will take place between Feb. 8-12 and will be hosted by Garton’s Auction Service out of Dauphin.

In 2019, the province announced its first auctions under a greatly changed Agricultural Crown Lands system. Among those changes, the province had replaced the prior points-based allocation system for forage and grazing leases with a public auction.

The province argues that the move to digital modernizes the delivery of the program.

“The new, online auction format will ensure we can offer all Manitobans the opportunity to rent additional lands that will support their farming operations,” Agriculture and Resource Development Minister Blaine Pedersen said in the Jan. 11 release.

The province has published a list of Crown land parcels up for lease on its website.
