n accidental fall claimed the life of one of Manitoba’s pork industry leaders last
week.
Larry Friesen, 58, fell seven metres
from the rafters of a former airplane hangar he was working on at Hangar Farms located on the former air force base near Rivers April 28. He succumbed to his injuries after being taken to Brandon Hospital by ambulance.
Manitoba Workplace Health and Safety is investigating the accident.
Friesen, was owner of Hangar Farms, a large hog-farrowing operation, and had been a director with the Manitoba Pork Council since 2001, representing weanling exporters. He is remembered by colleagues as a passionate supporter of the hog industry in Manitoba, and in particular, improving cross-border trade rules for weanlings.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie, children Jill, Vanessa, Lindsay, and Jordan.
