U.S. Cash Grains-Soy bids fall on sales; corn firm

Nov 14 (Reuters) - Soybean cash basis bids were steady to
sharply lower around the U.S. Midwest early on Thursday
following a spike in farmer sales and an ebb in demand from some
river shippers, dealers said.
    * The soy basis plunged 22 cents per bushel at an elevator
in southern Ohio after traders in the nearby Ohio River market
dropped their bids due to surging barge freight and
transportation delays on the waterway.
    * Soy bids also weakened at processing plants and elevators
in Iowa after a rise in futures pushed cash prices above

the target of $13 per bushel, triggering sales at that level. * Corn spot basis bids were steady to firm, rising at river terminals to compete with recent gains in the basis at processors and ethanol plants. * The harvest of each crop was nearly complete, and farmers continued to stow away a majority of their supplies in the hopes of selling later at higher prices. * Mostly dry weather for the next two weeks should allow U.S. farmers to finish harvesting the 2013 corn and soybean crops, an agricultural meteorologist said.
