U.S. Cash Grains-Corn, soy basis flat in light dealings

Dec 20 (Reuters) - Cash basis bids for corn and soybeans
were largely unchanged around the U.S. Midwest early on Friday
amid light offerings from farmers and limited demand from
processors and ethanol plants, grain merchants said.
    * Farmers sold little of either crop this week but few
buyers were bidding aggressively despite the slow sales. The
users of the commodities were content to take delivery of
supplies to meet existing contracts amid expectations farmers
will boost sales in the first few days of the new tax year.
    * Corn bids rose 5 cents per bushel late on Thursday at an

elevator in Burns Harbor, Indiana, while soybean bids gained 3 cents at a terminal along the mid-Mississippi River in Davenport, Iowa, with the basis flat elsewhere. * Barge freight costs were unchanged on Midwest rivers. * Soybeans futures edged higher at the Chicago Board of Trade to add to Thursday's technically driven gains, but remained capped by concerns over slowing U.S. exports and prospects for bumper production in South America.
