Global Markets: Weinstein Company to file for bankruptcy

WINNIPEG, Feb. 26, 2018 (CNS) – The following is a glance at the
news moving markets in Canada and globally.
Canadian Finance Minister Bill Morneau is expected to
unveil a restrained budget on Tuesday, with just enough spending
to satisfy middle class voters under pressure from rising rates.
The Liberals third budget is expected to include relatively low-
cost goodies for women and indigenous communities.
Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. unveiled a new model of its
flagship Galaxy S9 smartphone on Sunday with an emphasis on
visual applications for social media. The phone features
improved cameras, an artificial intelligence-powered voice tool
and social media functions that are easier to use than previous
models.
The board of directors for The Weinstein Company announced
late Sunday the New York film and TV studio is planning to file
for bankruptcy after talks to sell it collapsed. The firm had
been seeking to spare itself from bankruptcy after more than 70
women accused film producer Harvey Weinstein, its ex-chairman of
sexual misconduct including rape. Weinstein denies having non-
consensual sex with anyone.
