Global markets: TransCanada says pipeline has green light

WINNIPEG, March 24 – The following is a glance at the news moving markets globally.

– TransCanada announced that the US Department of State has signed and issued a Presidential Permit to construct the Keystone XL Pipeline, according to a media release issued by the company on Friday.

The pipeline had previously been blocked by President Barack Obama, citing increased emissions that cause global warming.

The current US President, Donald Trump, is expected to announce the permit later in the day.

– The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose two per cent on a year-over-year basis in February, following a 2.1 per cent gain in January, Statistics Canada said in a report on Friday.

Excluding gasoline, the CPI was up 1.3 per cent year over year in February, following a 1.5 per cent increase in January.
