Global Markets: NAFTA talks underway

WINNIPEG, April 19 (CNS Canada) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Representatives of Canada, Mexico, and the United States are meeting in Washington, D.C., to work towards a deal on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Analysts expect an agreement may be close.

– North Korea is committed to complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, according to reports out of South Korea. South Korean President Moon Jae-in expressed confidence that peace could be reached in the region, as the two countries, along with the U.S., work to normalize relations.

– Miguel Diaz-Canel has been sworn in as Cuba’s new president, replacing Raul Castro. Diaz-Canel, 57, is said to be a Communist Party stalwart who will help maintain the party line, while also leading Cuba into the new generation. However, Castro is expected to remain as the head of the armed forces.
