Global Markets: MacDon Industries sold to Ontario company

WINNIPEG, Dec. 15, 2017 (CNS) – The following is a glance at the
news moving markets in Canada and globally.
Winnipeg-based agriculture equipment maker MacDon
Industries Ltd. is being sold for C$1.2 billion to Linamar Corp,
based in Ontario. MacDon sells agricultural harvesting equipment
in over 40 countries and has about 1,400 dealers and
distributors in its global network.
A fatality has been linked to an E. coli outbreak in
romaine lettuce in Canada. The Public Health Agency of Canada
said in a statement Thursday night that a total of 30 cases of
E. coli are being investigated. There have been six cases
reported in Ontario, five in Quebec and New Brunswick, one in
Nova Scotia and 13 in Newfoundland and Labrador.
According to Statistics Canada, household debt for
Canadians is larger than their incomes. Statistics Canada said
Thursday that household credit market debt as a proportion of
household disposable income increased to 171.1 per cent in the
third quarter, up from 170.1 per cent in the second quarter.
