Global Markets: Iraqi protests continue

– Nationwide protests continued in Iraq for the fourth day, with more than 40 demonstrators reportedly killed by security forces so far. The protestors are calling for an end to corruption and improved public services. The government has imposed internet blackouts and curfews.

– U.S. jobs growth increased slightly in September, taking the country’s unemployment rate to a 50-year low of 3.5 per cent., according to a report from the U.S. Labor Department.

– A ban on face masks at public gatherings in Hong Kong is the latest development in the months-long protests in the city. Protestors fear a curtailment to the internet may be next as city executives are believed to be close to implementing emergency measures.
