WINNIPEG, Jan. 28 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– United States President Trump’s impeachment trial continues in the senate today. Earlier in the week, it was discovered that former National Security Advisor John Bolton wrote in an unpublished manuscript that President Trump denied military aid to Ukraine. This is in line with the allegation that President Trump abused his power in order to pressure the foreign government to interfere on his behalf in the 2020 election. This is the third and final day of the President’s lawyers presenting their defense arguments.

– Chinese authorities have reported over 4,000 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, which originated in Wuhuan last week. There have been 106 deaths in the country, and the virus has spread to at least 11 other countries. According to state TV earlier in the week, China’s government has extended the Lunar New Year holidays to Feb. 2 in order to strengthen preventative measures against the virus. The holiday was supposed to end on Jan. 30.

– Home prices in the U.S. increased in Nov. 2019 for the fourth straight month. According to data from Standard & Poor’s, the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller national home price index posted a 3.5 per cent annual gain in November, which is up from 3.2 per cent in October. Similarly, last week, the National Association of Realtors reported that median existing home prices increased by 7.8 per cent in December when compared to the same month in 2018.
