Global Markets: Facebook plans dating service

WINNIPEG, May 2 (CNS Canada) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Facebook Inc. is planning on adding an optional dating service to its social media network, announced CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday. Zuckerberg also announced that the company was working on new privacy controls during the conference with software developers.

– Guitar maker Gibson has filed for bankruptcy protection as the Nashville-based company deals with heavy debt. The company intends to restructure and focus on instrument making while moving away from its other audio businesses.

– The Eurozone saw economic growth of 0.4 per cent during the first quarter of 2018, which compared with 0.7 per cent growth the previous quarter, according to thelatest numbers. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom only reported growth of 0.1 per cent.
