Global Markets: Canada unemployment rate lowest since 2008

WINNIPEG, Dec. 1, 2017 (CNS) – The following is a glance at
the news moving markets in Canada and globally.
Hiring in Canada unexpectedly surged in November, sending
the unemployment rate tumbling to a more than nine-year low,
according to data released from Statistics Canada Friday. The
unemployment rate dropped to 5.9 per cent, its lowest since
February, 2008. There were 79,500 more people working in Canada
in November.
The United States derivative regulator has approved CME
Group and CBOE Global markets to trade bitcoin futures. The
announcement paves the way for CME and CBOE to become the first
traditional U.S. regulated exchanges to launch trading in
bitcoin-related financial contracts, a watershed moment for
cryptocurrency which could lead to greater regulatory scrutiny.
U.S. President Donald Trump’s former national security
advisor Michael Flynn has been charged for lying to the FBI
about his contacts with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S.,
according to charges filed in court by the special counsel’s
office. A plea hearing is set to happen Friday morning.
