July 18 (CNS Canada) – The following is a glance at the news
moving markets in Canada and globally.
– Prime Minister Justin Trudeau plans to shuffle his
cabinet later this morning. Questions are being raised about
whether Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay will retain
his post amid speculation that he does not plan to run for
re-election in 2019. The changes may also include two new
positions, including a new ministry focused on seniors.
– United States President Donald Trump appeared to
day, following the strong negative reaction to his
performance at the Helsinki meeting with Russian President
Vladimir Putin. On a Twitter post early this morning, Trump
again defended his performance at the Helsinki summit, after
saying yesterday that he misspoke. Trump was heavily
criticized for avoiding criticisms of Putin at the summit
and instead cast doubts on his own intelligence agencies on
whether Russia interfered with the 2016 U.S. election.
– Google has been fined US$5 billion over illegally
pushing its Android apps on smartphones. The fine surpasses
the US$2.8 billion fine issued last year after an
investigation into Googles shopping search functions.
