The Canadian Wheat Board and five small Prairie grain handling companies will take their level-of-service complaint against Canadian National (CN) into mediation this week, the CWB announced today.
The shippers had filed a complaint with the Canadian Transportation Agency earlier this month, indicating they were willing to seek a mediated solution rather than enter the CTA’s quasi-judicial complaint process. CN agreed to mediated talks.
CN has also agreed to postpone awarding grain rail cars through the advance-car booking programs at issue.
The CTA will be asked to rule on the companies’ applications if no resolution can be reached through mediation.
The companies and CWB claim CN has failed to comply with the spirit of a previous CTA ruling against it, favouring an inland grain terminal company in Alberta.
