Ambush insecticides get new Canadian distributor

Guelph-based chemical firm Engage Agro has picked up an exclusive Canada-wide marketing and distribution deal for the insecticides Ambush 50EC and 500EC.

"Ambush has a wide range of registered use patterns that fit the needs of Canadian specialty crop producers," said Tom Tregunno, Engage Agro’s product manager, in a release Wednesday.

The Group 3 permethrin products are registered for use on "over 40" crops in Canada and the U.S. for control of various crop pests, the company said.

The company said it will work with the products’ California-based manufacturer, American Vanguard (Amvac) to promote Ambush in Canada.

Permethrin is neurotoxic to target insects, with a mode of action specific to insects and posing no human health or environmental threat when applied following label directions, the company said.

"Agricultural producers are continuously searching for the most effective and economical means of running their businesses," Tregunno said. "Ambush is a proven product that offers great insect control and excellent flexibility for the specialty crop grower."

The Ambush brand was originally developed by Syngenta Crop Protection and later sold to Amvac, whose primary business is marketing niche lines it buys or licenses from the major players in the pesticide sector.
