Mid-Man Farms Ltd. Named Champion Grower

Mid-Man Farms Ltd. was named the 2010 McCain Champion Potato Grower for the McCain Carberry plant during the annual Growers’ Banquet held Nov. 3, 2010 at the Carberry Community Memorial Hall. More than 140 guests gathered to celebrate the top growers and their achievements. Potatoes are rated throughout the year on a variety of factors including size, gravity, defect level and colour and awarded points accordingly. At the end of each crop year, the top 10 growers are determined based on their overall scores. Darryl Rowe, president of McCain Foods (Canada) was on hand to extend personal congratulations to Mid-Man Farms Ltd. and all of the McCain growers. This is the second time Mid-Man, represented by Brock and Donna McIntosh have won the Champion Grower award, and have been in the Top 10 category five times. In addition to being awarded a keepsake trophy, a revolving trophy and a cheque for $1,000, Mid-Man Farms Ltd. will also receive an all-expense-paid trip to a destination of choice for their achievement. The other growers who qualified for the top 10 roster, in order of final standing, were: Wilbro Farms (Don and Barb Williams of Medora); C &T Reynolds (Conway and Betty Reynolds, Troy and Angie Reynolds of Carberry); Millshof Colony Farms (Paul, Sam and Samuel Wollman of Glenboro); Sundance Farms Ltd. (Bob Mazer, Ed Waldner and Don Loewen of Kemnay &Rivers); Acadia Colony Farms (John Hofer Sr., John Hofer Jr., Arnold Hofer and Leonard Hofer of Carberry); Trent &Myles Olmstead (Trent and Candis Olmstead, Myles and Karen Olmstead, Bryce and Travis Olmstead of Carberry); Earl Reynolds (Earl and Gerry Reynolds, Evan and Kim Reynolds of Carberry); Wright Spud Farms (Glenn and Alice Wright, Steven Wright and Jerilyn Popien of Wellwood); E &B Farms (Eric and Barb Adriaansen of Wellwood). Each received a $1,000 cheque for their accomplishments.
