Hay day a mere days away for EastMan

Forage and grassland conditions for Eastern Manitoba/Interlake as of June 4

This field in the East Interlake has advanced to the flowering stage.

With cool weather since May 31, there has been a slowing in some of the alfalfa fields in the East. With the return of warm weather Hay Day should be June 10th for the Eastern area.

RFV have increased is some fields as the plants tend to put out more leaves than stem. With the return of warm weather this coming week we should start to see RFV decline more rapidly and we should start losing 4-5pt/day. Fields that are close to 24 inches in height and late bud stage are likely close to a RFV of 170.

This is the fourth release for the 2018 Optimum Alfalfa Harvest Date. Reporting will be provided from various areas of the Province (Eastern, Central, Interlake, and Western).
