With the start of a new year, here are some reminders to help us become the best we can be.

Watch a sunrise at least once a year.

Have a firm handshake.

Say “thank you” a lot.

Say “please” a lot.

Plant flowers every spring.

Be the first to say “hello.”

Be forgiving of yourself and others.

Keep secrets.

Use less salt.

Never give up on anybody. Miracles happen every day.

Live as if you like yourself and it may happen.

Surprise loved ones with little unexpected gifts.

Remember that all news is biased.

Always have something beautiful in sight, even if it’s just a daisy in a juice glass.

Learn to identify local wildflowers, birds and trees.

Learn to listen – sometimes opportunity knocks very softly.

Don’t waste time responding to your critics.

Don’t waste time grieving over past mistakes. Learn from them and move on.

Patronize local merchants even if it costs a bit more.

Judge your success by the degree you’re enjoying peace, health and love.

Never eat the last cookie.

Wage war against littering.
