Flowers You Can Eat – for Jul. 29, 2010

Garnishing with edible flowers can add an exotic and creative touch to a meal, not to mention a splash of colour and culinary interest.

Some of the more popular edibles are: marigolds, squash blossoms, dianthus, nasturium and violets.

If you add some flowers to your food be sure to follow these precautions:

Make sure you properly identify anything you plan to eat.

Use pest control products specifically made for use on edible crops or better yet, grow organically.

If you or anyone in the family is allergy prone, introduce edibles in small quantities.
