Apricots Grown In Manitoba? – for Aug. 19, 2010

Who says we can’t grow apricots in Manitoba! I say we can, and here’s proof from our very own yard this summer. Almost 40 years ago, my husband received a catalogue from Aubin’s Nursery in Carman, Manitoba. Off to Carman he went and came home with several small fruit trees, one being an apricot. They don’t produce fruit every year but usually on alternate years. When barren, it is still a thing of beauty almost all year long – from blossom time to harvest and colour changes in autumn – as it graces the northwest corner of the front yard. Twenty years later, a new variety of apricot was advertised and you guessed it – we have it. This one is faster growing
