The Manitoba Pulse Growers Association (MPGA) is pleased to support a $5.7 million funding partnership with the Government of Canada and the newly formed Canadian Field Crops Research Alliance (CFCRA).

Funding for this project was made available through the Developing Innovative Agri-Products (DIAP) initiative from the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s (AAFC) Growing Forward framework.

The funds will support 18 public breeding and genetic programs aimed at new product development and agronomic issues for growers in Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes.

These projects will be managed by CFCRA and will include six field crops winter wheat, corn, soybean, spring wheat, oats and barley.

Manitoba Pulse Growers Association is a member of this alliance along with six other organizations including Grain Farmers of Ontario, SeCan, Fédération des producteurs de cultures du Québec, Manitoba Corn Growers Association, PepsiCo Canada and the Atlantic Grains Council. “We are very excited to see this funding approved.” says Andrew Saramaga, chair of Manitoba Pulse Growers Association. “A portion of this funding will go directly towards soybean breeding efforts MPGA supports.”

The Canadian Field Crops Research Alliance will receive up to $4 million in funding; the remaining $1.7 million is being contributed by the partners of CFCFRA.
